This study deals with the Lepidoptera of Algeria hitherto known species and genus group taxa. It is based upon the selected 630 publications. Text is composed of four major parts: (1) The authorship and the etymological information. (2) Regional faunas of the Lepidoptera in Algeria. In this part, 51 selected localities, or territories which is important for the Lepidoptera fauna are given as lists. These are; Sidi-Bel-Abbes, Aflou, Algiers, Souk Ahras, Tassili Ajjer, Djebel Amour, Annaba, Bou Saada, Blida, Biskra, Batna, Bejaia, Chegga, Chellata, Collo, Chrea, Constantine, Djebel Aures, Djurdjura Mt., Djebel Zaccar, El Alia, El Bayadh El Arisha, El Taref, Guerrara, Guelt es Stel, Ghardaia, Hammam es Salahin, Hammam Meskoutine, Hammam Rhira, Khenchela, El Kantara, Lambessa, Laghouat, Magenta, Mascara, Ouargla, Oued Mya, Oued Nca, Oran, El Outaya, Philippeville, Perregaux, Saida, Sebdou, Ain Sefra, Setif, Tlemcen, Touggourt, Tebessa, Theniet el had. (3) Lepidoptera of Algeria. Two taxonomical, synonymical, distributional, and bionomical lists of the genus and species group taxa are given. For this purpose 1036 genus, 2155 species group taxa of 59 families are listed. (4) Selected references. In this part, totally 630 publications are listed as author index. Geographical and thematic codes are also added to each reference. Additionally, selected 436 species of the 40 families of Algerian Lepidoptera are represented in specially prepared distributional maps.
